Kenya

Kenya is situated in East Africa and borders South Sudan, Ethiopia, Somalia, Uganda, and Tanzania, and offers an exquisite tropical coastline fringed with breathtaking golden sand beaches. Resting in the magnificent Great Rift Valley and presided over by the majestic Mount Kilimanjaro, Kenya is characterized by hauntingly beautiful natural landscapes of forested hills, patchwork farms, wooded savannah, and vast forests brimming with an extraordinary abundance of wildlife. The nation’s diverse range of traditional African cultures is influenced by over 70 unique ethnic groups, from the Maasai, Samburu, Kikuyu, and Turkana tribes to the Arabs and Indians who began to settle along the coast.

Kenya has some of the continent’s finest beaches, most magnificent wildlife and scenery, as well as an incredibly sophisticated tourism infrastructure. Over 50 parks and reserves cover all habitats; from desert to mountain forests and there are even six marine parks located along the coast bordering the Indian Ocean.

Kenya is home to lions, cheetahs, hippos, buffalos, wildebeest, elephants, zebras, giraffes, rhinos and many other animals, who can be found roaming through its National Parks and Game Reserves. The great animal migration, which happens every year between June and September, is famous for the herds of some two million wildebeest, who migrate from the Serengeti in Tanzania to the Masai Mara in Kenya. The Serengeti Migration of the wildebeest is part of the Seven Natural Wonders of Africa.

The top attractions in Kenya include: Maasai Mara National Park (where the great migration takes place), Amboseli National Park (crowned by Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest peak), Lake Nakuru National Park, Lamu Island, Lake Naivasha, Nairobi (capital city), Malindi and Mount Kenya National Park.

The most beautiful beaches are Diani Beach, Watamu and Turtle Bay, Malindi, Lamu, Tiwi, Shanzu and Nyali.

Kenya offers a truly African adventure in one of the world’s most pristine safari destinations.

Climate

June to October – Dry season: During the Dry season daytime temperatures are usually around 23°C at higher altitudes, such as the Masai Mara, and 28°C at lower altitudes, such as the coastal areas. The sky is clear and days are sunny. These are the coldest months with early morning temperatures at higher altitude are typically 10°C. It is advisable to pack warm clothing, as morning game drives in open vehicles will be cold. There is very little rain in most of the country. Wildlife is easier to spot because the bush is thin and animals gather around water. July to October are the best months to see the wildebeest migration.

November to May – Wet season: During the Wet season daytime temperatures are between 24°C and 27°C at higher altitudes. At lower altitudes daytime temperatures are more consistent and hover around 30°C. Mornings stay cool at higher altitudes, and it is advisable to pack warm clothes for early morning game drives. The scenery is beautiful and green and new-born animals can be seen. Migratory birds are present from September to April. Except for March to May, rains are usually just short showers in the afternoon.
