Situated in the southern reaches of Africa, Botswana is known for its pristine wilderness areas characterized by deep lagoons, wetlands, lush palms, rugged hills and desert plains scattered with scrubland. The country offers a great wildlife experience and phenomenal bird watching. Big cats roam free and you can witness the majestic elephants of the Chobe National Park, known for having the highest concentration of these gentle giants in Africa. One of the countries tourist drawcard is the vast red sand of the Kalahari Desert and the beautiful Okavango Delta which is the largest inland delta in the world. Other highlights include the impressive Makgadikgadi Salt Pans, where massive zebra migrations take place during the flood season.
Botswana is one of the most exclusive Safari destinations in Southern Africa. The camps and lodges are small and most of them can only be reached by small fixed-wing aircrafts. The Moremi Game Reserve is one of Botswana’s hidden gems and was voted the ‘best game reserve in Africa’ in 2008. Both Black and White Rhino have recently been re-introduced, now making the reserve a “Big Five” destination.
Whether you like safaris, mokoro rides, quad biking, fishing, 4×4 off road adventures or mobile camping safaris we make sure you experience the best Botswana has to offer. Being so close to the spectacular Victoria Falls, it’s an ideal opportunity to combine your Botswana adventure with a visit to the Falls.
Climate
April to October – Dry season: This is the best time to see game as animals concentrate around permanent water sources and less vegetation makes it easier to spot wildlife. Only permanent rivers flow in this season and central areas of the parks dry out. From June to August the night-time temperatures in drier areas can be close to freezing, but it warms up rapidly during the day, when the sky is usually clear and blue. July to October is peak season in Botswana and pre bookings are essential.
November to April Wet season: During this month the weather can be very hot and temperatures can reach up to 40 degrees during daytime. During those months, the rains are mostly short afternoon showers, with the only continuous rainfall occurring during January and February. Although wildlife is harder to spot amongst the high vegetation, the scenery is spectacular at this time. These months are also great for bird watching especially in the Okavango Delta. Particularly December is a good month as many antelope give birth during that time which means more predators.
